Bringing the Healing Power of Music to the St. Elizabeth Cancer Center

Karen BurnsGenerosity is expressed in many forms; from honoring a caregiver with a heartfelt note, to giving back by volunteering, remembering St. Elizabeth in your legacy plans or through a gift of gratitude. The Burns’ family is enhancing lives at the St. Elizabeth Cancer Center through the gift of music.

Karen Burns generously donated a beautiful baby grand Yamaha piano, which is now located in the lobby of the Cancer Center. Her love of music inspired her to share its calming and restorative power with the patients and families who enter the doors of the Cancer Center, bringing them joy, comfort and blessings.

Her family, along with Dr. Doug Flora, Executive Director of St. Elizabeth Oncology Services, and other associates of St. Elizabeth Healthcare and the Cancer Center, attended a blessing of the new piano and thanked Karen for her generous donation.

“We know this gift will bring healing, hope and joy to all who hear it,” added Dr. Flora. “And we’re grateful to the Burns family for supporting us as we work to deliver cancer care that truly touches hearts and souls; the kind of care our patients need and deserve.”

Karen BurnsKaren was inspired to learn how to play the piano just a few years ago in church, saying “It’s never too late to learn something new.” While the Cancer Center has several talented volunteer pianists to play the baby grand piano, it is also equipped to play itself, filling the atrium with calm and uplifting melodies throughout the day.
